Poland-based media group Wirtualna Polska Holding (WP) has joined the Polska Chmura (Polish Cloud) Employers’ Association, with the aim of developing its own cloud technologies and supporting the buildout of sovereign digital infrastructure in Poland.

The association brings together more than 20 companies and institutions offering cloud services with data centers located in Poland, promoting digital independence for the public and private sectors.

WP CEO Jacek Świderski said in a report by Money.pl that Poland cannot rely on “big tech” and foreign jurisdictions for critical data, stressing the need for local solutions that ensure independence and security. He added that the move reflects the company’s long-standing investments in in-house cloud software that keep user data under full domestic control.

WP operates several holiday accommodation sites, including Wakacje.pl and eHoliday.pl in Poland, as well as the Szallas Group’s vacation rental sites in Hungary and Czech Republic-based accommodation booking service operator Invia Group (which it acquired in April this year).

The company’s consumer finance segment includes new car sales offer-aggregator Superauto24.com and financial services comparison site TotalMoney.pl.

The advertising and subscription segment group’s news and ecommerce sites include fashion stores Domodi.pl and Allani.pl; interior and home design sites HomeBook.pl and Extradom.pl; and news sites WP.pl and Money.pl.
