Prosus-owned AutoTrader.co.za has unveiled dealer ratings and reviews feature in South Africa.

Like a common rating compilation procedure, AutoTrader requests a user who interacted with a dealer within a day to rate the dealership experience and write a brief review on customer services, according to its website. As soon as the feedback is received, it is instantly shared with the dealership who can correspond with the customer via AutoTrader.

Reviews and 1 to 5-star rating are posted with the dealer brand and description. Currently, there are more than 2,055 dealers listed on the marketplace and not of all them are rated or reviewed.

“Our ratings and reviews are calculated using a combination of factors including a 1 to 5-star rating system, number of customer reviews and how recent reviews are,” AutoTrader noted on the service webpage.

As well as helping buyers to make informed decisions, the customer’s reviews and subsequent ratings can also be instrumental in scaling up business for dealers as a positive review builds reputation and customer’s feedback paves the way for improvement, according to a company’s media statement.

Founded in 1992, AutoTrader.co.za enables a seller to sale privately for pay-per-listing R549 ($29.7 U.S.) / 28 days or directly to one of its buying dealers. Its close competitor Cars.co.za charges more or less the same rate per listing. Both say their ads are reaching to more than 3 million car buyers.

With a monthly traffic of 11.9 million in January, AutoTrader continued to lead the market, ahead of Cars.co.za (5.9 million), according to Similarweb.

Among other marketplaces in its portfolio, Prosus also runs property marketplace Property24.com in South Africa.
