EBay is piloting a new program in the U.K. aimed at assisting users to sell unwanted goods on its marketplace.
The new pilot program, called EBay Neighborhood, is a U.K. version of EBay Valet in the U.S., which replaced the Trading Assistant program, EcommerceBytes.com reported.
The pilot program connects people with things to sell, with experienced EBay sellers in their local area. Sellers who successfully sell items for others, earn a commission of 40 percent of the attained sales price.
Is this strategy to bring “consumer sellers” on board not a cannibalization of its Gumtree business, we asked EBay, but received no comment from the site.
The company published details of the ambitious, multi-year evolution of its shopping platform. The EBay “replatforming” strategy will turn the site into a ‘powerful, new way for consumers to shop, moving well beyond the listing-based approaches that have typified the past. And, this new approach will reduce the reliance on search as the only path to discovery.’
